Final Furlong

You’ve owned, trained and raced thoroughbreds your entire life, but you’ve never stood in the winners’ circle.  You have one final race this weekend and after that your career is over.  Your stable is full of washed up old colts, but with the right jockey and the perfect preparation you just may go out on top.  It’s sunny and hot right now, but they’re calling for several inches of rain on raceday – will the forecast be correct causing a slow muddy track, or will this heat hold up to the benefit of the faster horses?  Will you pick the right horse to enter the race given the course conditions?  Is there a jockey out there that can motivate one of your longshots?  The smart money is against you, but none of that will matter if you make all the right moves this week and catch a break on raceday.
